Skype Lesson Reference Letters
Reference Letter from the Parent of a Teen Student
Hi, my name is Cathy. My son Tyler has been taking piano lessons from Mrs. Howington for 4 1/2 - 5 yrs now. The past three years have been Skype lessons. When Mrs. Howington first proposed the idea of Tyler continuing his piano lessons with her even though she was moving I was a little skeptical. I wasn't much into to Skyping or Face Time but, what did we have to lose? I thought we would give it a try because we liked the lessons we were receiving and we enjoyed Mrs. Howington. Mrs. Howington reaches Tyler on Skype. He uses his iPad which is positioned so she can see his hands on the keys and also his posture. We take a picture of his theory assignments and send them to her to be checked. He has continued to learn piano at the same pace he would have if she were sitting next to him. The lessons go on just like before. OK, the one thing they don't do anymore are the duets! I miss those. I actually like the lessons more now. If it is snowy and cold we don't have to leave the house. If he or she have a cold we aren't exchanging germs, no drive time either. I can do laundry, cook, clean, read a book, relax, whatever while he is having a lesson. It works out great. I am a big fan of the Skype lesson. Cathy Y. |

Reference Letter from the Parent of a Preteen Student
I have known Mrs. Marilyn Howington for the last five and half years. She is very kind, soft spoken. She is very easy to work with, flexible and accommodating. She is very schedule oriented and never misses any class. While Mrs. Howington is kind, she is firm and assertive when needed with the students. She has been teaching piano for my daughter – Saanvi for the past few years. Initially, for the first two years, she used to teach her in person when she was living in Detroit, MI. In these two years Saanvi made excellent progress in playing piano. But then, Mrs. Howington moved to Toledo OH. Given the excellent chemistry between my daughter and Mrs. Howington, we were reluctant to go to another teacher. At our request Mrs. Howington agreed to continue the piano lessons over Skype. To our surprise, this worked out very well for Saanvi and for the last 3 years we have been continuing successfully the lessons over Skype. Saanvi likes her piano teacher very well. Under Mrs. Howington’s teaching and guidance, Saanvi has made excellent progress in learning and playing the piano. Sincerely, Sri Rashmi B. |
